Chocolate Chip Brookies
These chocolate chip brookies really are the best of both worlds in one easy cookie. They're a hybrid between chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie dough baked together into one soft, fudgy "brookie". They're fun, a little extra in the best way, and perfect when you can't decide whether to go for cookies of for brownies!

Brookies are always a hit year-round, but they're especially fun for birthdays, bake sales, holiday cookie trays, and casual parties. They also make a great weekend baking project when you want something a little more exciting than plain cookies.
If you do decide to bake cookies or brownies...I do have recipes for those on my blog too:

How to Make Chocolate Chip Brookies

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together (Image 2) until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.

Step 2: Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed (Image 2).

Step 3: Add the eggs and vanilla extract (Image 3), then continue mixing until everything is well combined.

Step 4: Add 4 cups of the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms (Image 4).

Step 5: Divide the dough in half. Place one half back into the mixing bowl (Image 5).

Step 6: To this half, mix in the remaining ¼ cup of flour, then stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips. This will be your chocolate chip cookie dough (Image 6).

Step 7: Take the second half of the dough and add the cocoa powder. Mix until the dough becomes evenly chocolate flavored. Stir in the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips (Image 7).

Step 8: Using a cookie scoop, gather a small portion of each dough (Image 8).

Step 9: Place them next to each other on the baking sheet, gently pressing them together to form one cookie (Image 9).
Shape the dough into a circle and flatten it slightly on the baking sheet.
Repeat the process with the remaining dough.

Step 10: Bake the brookies for 12-13 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops look slightly golden (Image 10).

Step 11: Remove the brookies from the oven and let them rest on the baking sheet for about 1 minute.
Transfer the brookies to a wire rack and allow them to cool before serving (Image 11).
Hint: don't overbake these. The brookies should look set around the edges but still a little soft in the center when you pull them from the oven. They'll keep setting as they cool, and that's what gives you that chewy, fudgy texture.
Baking Schedule
Step 1: Prep dough - 20-25 minutes
Step 2: Scoop and shape cookies - 5-10 minutes
Step 3: Bake - 12-13 minutes
Step 4: Cool - 5 minutes
💭Crucial Success Tips
The biggest trick with chocolate chip brookies is keeping the two doughs similar in size when you scoop them. That helps each cookie bake evenly and gives you that pretty half-cookie, half-brownie look.
Recipe FAQs
Dry brookies usually happen when they're overbaked or when too much flour is added. Pull them out when the edges are set and the centers still look slightly soft.
Yes. Once cooled, store them in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 2 months. Let them thaw at room temperature before serving.
Store them in an airtight container as soon as they've cooled. That helps them stay soft and chewy for the next couple of days.
How To Store Chocolate Chip Brookies
Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. For longer storage, freeze baked brookies for up to 2 months.
