Mediterranean Cuisine
The Mediterranean recipes youโll find on my blog mainly come from countries like Italy, Greece, Spain, southern France, and coastal parts of the Balkans (like Slovenia!).
Mediterranean cuisine is very much shaped by the sea, warm weather, and simple ingredients that donโt need much to taste good (also, it's way to hot most of the time to have an oven/stovetop turned on for many hours on end). Youโll see a lot of olive oil, fresh vegetables, herbs, grains, and, of course, sourdough versions of traditional breads.
Coastal areas lean heavily into fish and seafood, while inland regions use more meat, cheese, and baked dishes. But overall, Mediterranean food tends to feel lighter and more seasonal, especially compared to the kind of Central European recipes I also share.
Thereโs also a lot of overlap. Many Mediterranean recipes show up in slightly different versions depending on the country. Something youโll find in Italy often has a close version in Greece or along the Adriatic coast, just with small changes. Even here in Slovenia, Mediterranean flavors are part of everyday cooking, especially in the summer months.
If youโre looking for easy Mediterranean recipes that you can throw together for your family, look no further. Mediterranean dishes are on the menu daily in my house during the summer months!
